Finding Fall All Around
Living in Central Texas, experiencing the typical colors, feelings, and changes of the fall season can be challenging. When we arrived here eight years ago after moving from Colorado, my husband and I had to quickly accept that fall in our new surroundings had to be discovered. The changes and the beauty of the season were there all around us. It just looked and felt a little different than what we were used to experiencing. Instead of being welcomed into the season with crisp cool air and tree leaves changing to bright gold and orange leaves, warm temperatures and green leaves continued to greet us well into the season and, in fact, linger for some time without really changing much until mid to late November.
I quickly learned that to enjoy fall in Texas, I was going to have to embrace the season as it was and look for subtle changes like yellow and purple wildflowers in bloom along the roadside, the sunlight shining in the windows a little differently, late summer produce such as herbs, peppers, and tomatoes that still thrive and offer ample late harvests, and of course, all of the pumpkins that greet you as you walk into grocery stores. Those subtle changes do become more vibrant a little later in the season as temperatures eventually cool slightly, daylight becomes shorter and tree leaves begin to change to subtle tones of yellow and burnt orange. Having to look for fall in my new surroundings inspired me to embrace what was here and find ways to still celebrate what is most beautiful to me about the season - warm colors in clothing and home textiles, cut seasonal flowers that are still in bloom, candle and baking fragrances that fill the air, fall flavors infused in cooking, and an abundance of fall produce to choose from that all invite me inside to cozy up, rest, and celebrate the season in my own surroundings.
And that is exactly what inspired me to name our new fall collection over on our shop page - Finding Fall. Whether it is a fragrance layered with notes of pumpkin, vanilla, and allspice that wraps you up in a candle’s glow, or gathering around a table sharing a seasonal meal with friends and family set with simple fall-inspired table linens, or selecting gifts that have a nod to the season such as pressed olive grove finds or a pear tea-towel, my hope is this collection of fall goods will inspire you and add to the ways you enjoy experiencing and celebrating fall.
The true beauty of this season, and any season for that matter, is all around us if we just open our eyes and hearts to discover our surroundings in new and beautiful ways. May you be delightfully inspired as you discover and enjoy finding fall this year wherever you are and wherever your path leads you each day.
Happy finding fall, friends!
